The plane of Lithuanian stunt pilot Jurgis Kairys crashed in the Aegean Sea on Wednesday. The pilot survived and had to drift on a piece of wreckage of the plane for several hours while waiting for help.
Kairys told BNS by phone from Thessaloniki the crash was caused by an engine failure of his personal plane SU-26 at the altitude of 1,000 meters at around 4 PM local time during a flight from Kavala to Athens. He had to parachute jump and landed in the sea.

Syria airstrike

US Air Force’s “crown jewel” the F-22 stealth fighter jet had a real baptism of fire as some planes were used in bombings against ISIS positions in Iraq and Syria.
Seen and promoted as the “ultimate air superiority” fighter, F-22 was transformend in a real fifth generation multirole aicraft.
Some F-22′s were deployed to Al Dhafra Airbase, in UAE, from with they fly over Iraq and Syria for bombing missions.

Greek authorities published a short video from Jurgis Kairys’ rescue operation.
Lithuanian aerobatic pilot crashed on wednesday with his plane, a Su-26, into Aegean Sea. He was saved by helicopter after nearly three hours.

An Israeli Patriot missile battery has shot down a Syrian fighter jet that infiltrated half a mile into airspace controlled by Israel over the Golan Heights on Tuesday morning.
Video footage of the first such downing by Israel of a Syrian jet since 1982 showed two burning sections of the plane falling to the ground and then the parachutes of the pilot and navigator who ejected moments before impact.

Va scriam, in urma cu ceva luni, ca pilotii Bazei 86 Aeriene au participat la exercitiul “Thracian Star 2014″, alaturi de cei din Bulgaria, Statele Unite si Grecia.
Pana acum nu am avut detalii cu privire la participarea romaneasca la acest exercitiu, insa am gasit ceva destul de interesant in editia din luna august a revistei Air Forces Monthly.

Swedish Air Force are proud to announce that they have already a first Gripen C jet that surpassed 2.000 flight hours frontier.
The plane registered 39 210 is the “hero of the day” in Sweden, first Grioen C that flew that much.
Also in september, Swedish Air Force celebrated ten years of service for Saab Gripen C and D models.

Francesco Fornabaio, one of the best aerobatic pilots in the world, died on Sundat after crashing with his plane while performing at an airshow.
The italian ace pilot was executing his routine when he plunged straight to the earth, without any sign of trying to regain control. He died immediatly.
This tragedy occured near San Nicolo beach, Venice, at Fly Venice 2014 event.

Bulgaria and Romania will begin a joint air policing exercise this month to practice measures against potential threat to strategic facilities from hijacked or suspicious aircraft.
The main objective of the exercise codenamed Blue Bridge 2014 “is to achieve improved coordination and interoperability between Bulgarian and Romanian Air Forces in conducting cross-border operations on air traffic control and guarding of airspace,” the Defence Ministry in Sofia said in a statement.
Bulgaria and Romania, which share a common border along the Danube, have one nuclear power plant each located close to the river.
