Romanian Air Force recevied the sixth C-27J Spartan
Romanian Air Force has received on Thursday the sixth short and medium transport aircraft C- 27J Spartan. The plane, registered 2706, equipped for medical evacuation missions (MEDEVAC), is destined to health emergency interventions .
Defense Ministry held a small ceremony at the 90th Airlift Fleet from Otopeni in witch the new airplane was presented to press and officials.
Romania, through the Ministry of Defense, and the Italian company Alenia Aeronautica SpA signed an agreement concerning the acquisition of seven Spartan planes in 2007. Alenia began deliveries in 2010, but stopped after our country received the first five Spartans.
This year, Government unlocked payments and the sixth Spartan, fitted for MEDEVAC missions, arrived at Otopeni.
According to Minister Dusa, the seventh and and last plane of this type, equipped for fighting fires, will arrive in Romania at the end of this year or in the first half of 2014.
Since 2010, the Romanian fleet of C- 27J Spartan has participated in multiple missions at home and abroad, reaching a total of over two thousand flight hours.
