Hatzor air base flooded
Eight F-16C/D Sufa’s of 101sq and 105sq of the Heyl Ha’Avir (IAF, Israel Air Force) that were parked in their underground hangars were damaged in a heavy rainstorm last week.
Israel is knowing to have hangars that are positioned below surface level, these underground hangars are named “Datak”. During heavy rainstorms over the Negev desert, the IAF mistakenly forgot to remove eight Sufa’s from these hangars that were feeded with water up to 1,5 meters.
Three jets were seriously damaged while five were only light harmed when the hangars suddenly flooded at the Hatzor air base (Israel). The IAF announced that the planes are expected to return to service next week, this after some costly repairs. They also will start to look to the drainage systems around the hangars as well as the concrete walls that must keep water of the nearby river away.
